Almost always a worn cartridge, stem, or seat washer. The handle stops the water until the internal seal can't hold pressure anymore — it's a part swap, not a sign you need a new faucet.
Mineral and debris buildup inside a cartridge, or a failing pressure-balance valve. Both are repairable in place — usually without opening the wall.
Broken stem, stripped splines, or a seized cartridge. Common on 15+ year old fixtures and on shower handles that haven't moved in years.
Worn internal seals or a failing check stop allow pressure to slam against the closed valve. We can usually pin down the source room-by-room and fix it at the fixture.
Failed O-ring or escutcheon seal. Small fix, but ignored long enough it can rot a vanity top or warp drywall behind a shower wall.
We pull the handle, identify the brand and trim, and confirm exactly which part is failing — not a guess based on the symptom.
You see the price after diagnosis and before any work begins. Priced by the job, not the hour — no overtime surprises.
Our trucks carry cartridges, stems, O-rings, and seat kits for Moen, Delta, Kohler, and Hansgrohe. If a less common part needs to be sourced, we tell you the timeline before we leave.
If the trim is discontinued, the valve body is corroded, or the math doesn't work in your favor, we tell you that plainly — and what a swap would actually involve. You decide.
We identify the brand, trim, and exact failed component — cartridge, stem, O-ring, seat, escutcheon, or valve body — before quoting the repair

If a part is discontinued or the math points to replacement, we say so plainly and walk you through the alternative — no upsell pressure

Morgan founded and runs bluefrog from SE Portland. The business is woman-owned and LGBTQ-owned — a team that reflects the city we serve. When you call, you reach a local shop whose owner oversees every project, not a national dispatch center routing you to whoever's available.
We price by the job, not by the hour. You see a written estimate after diagnosis and before we touch anything — no overtime charges, no surprises. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice.
Every technician works under Oregon CCB #255748. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and close it out — you don't have to coordinate anything. The work meets Oregon code and gives your home a clean paper trail.
Every technician on our crew is a direct bluefrog employee — background-checked, Oregon-licensed, and accountable to Morgan personally. We don't route calls through a dispatch network or hand off to whoever's available. You'll get the right person for the job, not just whoever's next in the queue.

We had a mysterious hot water flow issue that a different plumbing company couldn't figure out, and Shae immediately solved it and fixed it same day. They were also able to get us in quickly, which I appreciated. Thank you so much!

In most cases, yes. Modern shower valves — Moen Posi-Temp, Delta Monitor, Kohler Rite-Temp, Hansgrohe — are designed so the cartridge or stem comes out through the existing trim plate without touching the surrounding tile. The exception is when the valve body itself has failed (corroded, cracked, or leaking behind the wall), which usually requires opening drywall on the back side or removing a tile or two. We can almost always tell from a quick look at the handle and a pressure check whether your repair stays at the trim or needs to go deeper. If it's the latter, we'll tell you before any cutting starts.
Cost depends on the brand, the part that failed, and whether one fixture or several need attention. A standard cartridge swap on a kitchen or bathroom faucet is on the lower end; a shower valve cartridge or a multi-fixture visit runs higher. The estimate is free, and we price by the job — you see the full number after diagnosis and before any work starts. No per-hour billing, no overtime charges during business hours.
Yes — our trucks carry cartridges, stems, seat kits, and O-rings for the brands in most Portland homes: Moen, Delta, Kohler, and Hansgrohe. That covers the vast majority of same-visit repairs. For less common brands or older trim where parts have to come from a supply house, we let you know the timeline at the estimate stage, and we work with Portland-area supply houses for same-day pickup when the part is in town.
Sometimes — and we'll tell you plainly when that's the case. Replacement makes sense when the trim is discontinued (so future parts will be hard to find), when the valve body itself is corroded, or when a repair would cost a meaningful fraction of a new fixture you'd rather have. For most working faucets and shower valves under 20 years old, repair is the cheaper and faster path. We give you both numbers before any work starts so you can decide without pressure.
We work on all the major residential brands — Moen, Delta, Kohler, Hansgrohe, American Standard, Grohe, Pfister, and others. Brand is rarely the limiting factor on a repair; what matters is whether the trim line is still supported and whether the valve body is in good shape. We can confirm both during the diagnosis visit.
We serve most of the Portland metro area — typically within 20 miles of SE Portland.
